When women are considering having a breast enhancement surgery performed on them, they take many things into consideration like the cost of the whole procedure, the reputation of the plastic surgeon, the size of breast implants that they would like to have, the complications that may arise from the plastic surgery and many other things. One important thing that they always miss to look at is the implant placement. You probably hadn't thought of it either now, had you? Well, it's about time you thought about it and tried to see what implant placement is all about.

You have to realize that it is not just the size, type and quality of the breast implant that matters; where the breast implant is placed also matters a lot. To understand all this, you may have to carry out your own research first before consulting your breast augmentation surgeon on the subject. Your own research is necessary as with a little background knowledge, you will have many questions to ask the cosmetic surgery expert when you consult so that everything about the positioning of the implants is clearer to you. There are two ways in which the implants can be positioned.

There is the sub-glandular position whereby the breast implants are placed just above the muscles. Many prefer this one because recovery is apparently quicker and less painful. With sub-glandular placement, there are many options for the incision including the following: T.U.B.A, areola, inframammary and transaxillary. It is good for the athletic women. There are disadvantages like rippling of the breasts, little tissue cover for the implants, hindrance of detection of breast cancer at an early stage and rates of capsular contracture are higher.

The second one is the sub-muscular whereby the breast implants are inserted under the muscles. This procedure reduces the amount of incisions possible which are: areola, inframammary and transaxillary. This type of implant placement offers a lower risk of raising the capsular contracture, after recovery, the chance of breast rippling is greatly reduced and it does not intervene in the functions of mammograms. However, the surgery lasts much longer than the sub-glandular one because the implant has to go under the muscles without damaging them, you will experience more discomfort during recovery and more pain than you would with the other placement procedure, due to the latter, you will take a longer time to recover, it will not be that easy to have cleavage and the breast implants will take longer to drop.

So to decide on the type of implant placement, you will look at the structure of your body and the type of work out that you do to see what placement is better suited for you.
