Recent Literature on Pediatric Antiepileptic Drugs

Introduction

With the addition of over a dozen new antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) in the United States over the past 20 years, there has been a steady increase in the number of papers published describing alternatives to traditional therapy with phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine, and valproic acid. Among them are papers addressing the use of newer AEDs in the prevention and treatment of seizures in infants, children, and adolescents. This issue of Pediatric Pharmacotherapy provides an overview of pediatric AED research published during 2012.
