You've been given the honor of being in the wedding or an important attendant of the wedding.
When it comes to writing a speech, or toast, it's no wonder you'd wonder how to write a wedding speech! It's an important task and one you don't want to screw up.
Whether you are the father, mother, or just a friend, you can easily write a meaningful speech that's heartfelt.
Let's get started.
Tip #1 You've spent time with this couple so write about past memories- with a spin.
You want to tell the attendants how wonderful the new married couple is and give examples of some fun times you've shared with one or both of them.
Also share stories about what you see them as.
Using descriptions like "they are definitely in love".
Make it a sweet memoir.
You can share a funny story but be sure it's tastefully done.
No need to embarrass anyone! Often, what one person feels is appropriately funny is totally inappropriate in the situation.
Be sure to get others' advice if you plan to write something funny.
You just may save yourself from problems later on.
Tip #2 Don't drag it out.
You want your speech to be entertaining, heartfelt, and/or humorous but you don't want it to take forever! If you take the time to write what you plan to say, you can then decide what you really want in the speech and then cut the other parts out.
While I understand, you want to say everything you can and not miss a thing, you also don't want to bore the guests.
You may have to fine-tune what you've come up with a several times before the wedding.
That's OK! Enjoy writing this, hopefully it will be the only one you'll need to write for them so make it special and take your time crafting the perfect words.
Tip #3 Write an outline if you are struggling with what to say.
If you break up the wording of you speech into smaller segments, it will flow very smoothly.
Have a beginning, middle and end.
Also write a list of the people you'd like to thank or depending on the speech, what you remember about the couples' friendship.
Write each section, one at a time.
Add little (tasteful) funny stories in between.
You will have the attention of your audience and you will have a happy couple.
