    Early History

    • Louis Chevrolet (in the dark suit).

      Chevrolet Motor Co. was founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet, a race car driver, and William Durant, a former General Motors executive. In 1912, the company introduced its first vehicle called the "Classic Six."

      After Chevrolet Motor Co. became successful, Louis Chevrolet left the company and sold his interest to William Durant. Durant soon formed a partnership with General Motors and Chevrolet became a subsidiary of GM in 1918.

    Notable Models

    • Introducing the 1953 Chevrolet corvette.

      Since Chevrolet was formed in 1911, the company has introduced a number of important vehicles. Some of the most notable are the corvette, the camaro and the silverado truck series.

    Bankruptcy

    • GM ran out of gas.

      In 2009, General Motors filed bankruptcy because of poor sales, a troublesome economy and mismanagement. Chevrolet emerged as one of the core brands to take the company into the future.
