You've planned the wedding, the flowers and the outfits; but have you planned on where you are going on your honeymoon? Indeed, planning where to go on your honeymoon often proves the most exciting - and least stressful - aspect of your wedding.

The Maldives is a perennial favourite with honeymooners looking for the ultimate in relaxation and luxury. Here you can pick your island from the scattering of atolls across the Indian Ocean and upgrade to a seaplane transfer to get a bird's eye view of the clusters. Furthermore, an over water villa will suspend you above turquoise waters looking out onto beautiful, fiery sunsets - which is perfect for those romantic evenings in.

Mexico is another popular destination, with more and more newlyweds finding their little slice of heaven between its beaches, Mayan history and buzzing nightlife. So, be sure to choose your resort carefully to make sure you get what you want from Mexico. Sun worshippers should head to Cancun, where the beaches are plentiful, and offers an array of delightful eateries to choose from.

What's more, Uxmal and Tulum are perfect for those who wish to see the remains of the Mayan civilisation; Chichen Itza hosts giant temples and pyramids. And, if you fancy a change in routine from the tourist attractions then there are opportunities to swim with dolphins, sting rays and manatees in the Mayan Riviera; an unforgettable occasion to share with that special someone.

For somewhere a little closer to home, why not try Italy? Whether it's the sun drenched beaches of Sicily, the colosseum of ancient Rome or the gondolas of Venice, you really are spoilt for choice with romantic options in Italy. If you plan to get married in January or early February, see if you can get an invite to one of the masquerade balls during the Venice Carnival. It starts two weeks before Ash Wednesday and ends on Shrove Tuesday, during which time the streets are littered with revellers in elaborate masks and disguises.

If it's the exotic Far East that calls to you, then a honeymoon in Thailand could be ideal. Magnificent temples boasting smiling visages of Buddha are surrounded by the equally happy faces of Buddhist monks and villagers; welcoming you to The Land of Smiles. And if you fancy something a little different then take the time to visit a floating market or elephant sanctuary to make your time away truly momentous.

Of course, honeymoons provide the ideal opportunity to celebrate the unity of two individuals, which makes it even more important that you take your time in deciding where to spend this special occasion together.
