    • 1). Measure the desired height and width of the girl's headboard. Keep the dimension measurements divisible by two so that the ribbons will fit flush on the face of the board. Cut a section of half-inch thick plywood to fit the dimensions.

    • 2). Spray paint one side and all four edges of the cut plywood board in a background color that coordinates with the ribbons. Allow the paint to dry, and recoat the same areas. Let the paint dry. Flip the board and paint the backside of the plywood. Let the paint dry.

    • 3). Cut strands of ribbon to fit the height of the plywood board, plus five inches. Cut as many ribbon strands as you need to fit across the width of the plywood. For example, if the board is 20 inches tall and 30 inches wide, you will need 15 two-inch wide ribbon strands measuring 25 inches long each to cover the height of the headboard.

    • 4). Cut strands of ribbon to fit the width of the plywood board, plus five inches. Cut as many strands as necessary to fit vertically along the height of the board. For example, if the board is 20 inches tall and 30 inches wide, cut 10 strands of 2-inch wide ribbon that measure 35 inches in length to span the width of the headboard.

    • 5). Staple one end of a ribbon cut for height to the back of the plywood board, two inches from the top edge. Place the first ribbon so that its edge is flush with the left edge of the plywood headboard. Run the length of ribbon across the face of the headboard and staple the end onto the backside of the board.

    • 6). Staple another ribbon in the same manner, but place the edge flush against the edge of the first ribbon. Continue to cover the height of the headboard with ribbon strands.

    • 7). Staple one end of a ribbon strand cut for width to the backside of the plywood, two inches from the top left corner. Weave the ribbon over and under the ribbons already attached to the board. Staple the end of the woven ribbon to the backside of the board.

    • 8). Staple another width ribbon beside the first width ribbon so that the sides are touching. Weave the ribbon across the headboard, but begin the weaving process under the first ribbon in the row. Continue to weave ribbons across the width of the board until the board is covered. Remember to place the edges of the ribbon flush against each other. Also remember to alternate the over and under positions at the beginning of each row.

    • 9). Locate the studs in the wall behind the bed. Attach at least one wall hanger to a wall stud, or use wall anchors. Attach two wall hangers to the wall and to the corresponding spots on the back of the plywood.
