    • 1). Wash the tractor to remove all of the debris and dirt. Clean the mower deck on top and underneath. Start the tractor and let it run for five minutes to dry off all the parts.

    • 2). Repair or replace any damaged parts on the tractor, following the instructions in the manufacturer's shop manual. Tighten any loose parts, nuts or bolts using the appropriate tools from the tool kit.

    • 3). Repair any paint chips or scratches, according to the John Deere paint manufacturer's instructions.

    • 4). Apply a light coat of oil to any unpainted pivot or wear points to avoid rust. Lubricate the tractor at all lube points with a grease gun, following the instructions in the manufacturer's shop manual.

    • 5). Park the tractor outdoors or in a well ventilated area. Start the tractor engine, and allow it to run out of gas. Turn off the ignition key. Mix enough gasoline and fuel stabilizer in a separate gas tank to fill up the gas tank on the tractor. Restart the tractor and allow it to run for a few minutes in order to ensure that the stabilized fuel has circulated throughout the system.

    • 6). Change the engine oil and filter, following the instructions in the manufacturer's shop manual.

    • 7). Inspect the air filter. Replace it with a new one if necessary, following the instructions in the manufacturer's shop manual.

    • 8). Park the tractor where it will be stored. Remove the spark plugs from the engine if the tractor is equipped with a gasoline engine. Put one ounce of motor oil into each cylinder through the spark plug hole. Replace the spark plugs, but do not connect the spark plug wires. Crank the engine five or six times to ensure that the oil spreads evenly throughout the cylinders.

    • 9). Clean all dirt and debris off the engine, and the engine compartment. Close the fuel shutoff valve if the tractor is equipped with one.

Charge the battery, and recharge it every 90 days.
