How to Lower Your TSH Numbers
- 1). Consult your doctor about thyroid medication such as Synthroid or Armour. These medications adjust the levels of T3 and T4 and reduce the overall TSH levels to correct the symptoms of hypothyroidism.
- 2). Monitor your side effects as you are taking the medication. Your doctor may retest your thyroid levels to determine if the medication is working. Thyroid medication can be synthetic or natural; you may find that you react differently to the different varieties of medication.
- 3). Avoid foods which may affect your thyroid function. Cabbage, broccoli, spinach, peanuts, pine nuts, and soybeans are some examples of foods that may affect the function of your thyroid.
- 4). Avoid soy products and iron-rich foods. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, there is some evidence that soy and iron can affect the absorption of thyroid medications.
