How to Choose Vinyl Tile for a Kitchen Floor

    • 1). Consider the color range and pattern you want. Eliminate a great majority of vinyl tile options by not looking at anything that doesn't fall into your color or pattern wants. Make a note of the name of each tile that you like; you'll be surprised to find you have no more than ten left to choose from once you've eliminated colors and patterns you simply don't care for.

    • 2). Check the thickness of each tile. Some vinyl tiles are very thin and will wear through easily and others are quite thick and made for high traffic, areas such as kitchens. Hold a tile between your hands and flex it, and you will be able to feel the difference in quality from one tile to another.

    • 3). Read the box of each brand of vinyl tile to find the warranty information. Warranties in vinyl tile can range from 3 to 20 years, and you'll want a tile that lasts long and wears well for your kitchen.

    • 4). Cross off thin tiles and low warranty tiles from your list; you will now have three to five tile choices remaining.

    • 5). Purchase a single sample of each tile that remains on your list and look at them at home in your kitchen. Make sure to examine the way they look in both daylight and artificial light; they will look completely different from the way they looked in the store. Discard the tiles that don't have the right color or pattern once in your kitchen.

    • 6). Place the remaining tiles on your counter top. The tile that best matches the counter is the tile that will coordinate the best, making it the proper choice for your kitchen floor.
