Portable Drill Safety
- Remove any loose-fitting clothing that may get in the way. This means loose sweaters, long necklaces and other loose pieces of clothing should not be worn during portable drill use.
- When drilling into wood and metal, small shards of material may fly into the air. Safety equipment will protect you from any flying material. Wear a pair of safety goggles that fully cover your eyes and a pair of work gloves that are not loose.
- Before using the drill, check it for any problems. Check the power cord for any kinks or holes in the cord. If there are any holes in the cord, do not use it. It can cause electrocution during use. Make sure the bit is securely fastened into the drill. If the bit is loose, it may fall out during use, becoming a projectile.
- Place the drill bit into the material. Hold onto the trigger with one hand. With the other hand, firmly hold the material. Keep your hands away from the bit to avoid injury. Stand firmly as you drive the drill bit into the material.
- Once you have finished drilling, allow the drill to cool down. Take the drill bit out of the drill. Place the drill in its case or in a clean storage area. Clean the floor and other areas that have debris.
