How to Dress a Bay Window With Curtains

    • 1). Hang blinds or roman shades for privacy that are the exact size of the panes of the window. Install them inside the window casing, so you can easily add other layers over them.

    • 2). Hang sheers over the blinds or shades, installing the brackets just outside the window casing. This allows you the choice between complete darkness when the shades or blinds are pulled down, or a little light being allowed into the room through the sheers with still a small amount of privacy.

    • 3). Hang the curtains so that they are over the window casing, right to the outside of the brackets for the sheers. Use a decorative curtain rod and hardware for this step as it will show.

    • 4). Hang a valance over each window that hides the rods for the sheers and covers the blinds or shades when they are drawn all the way up. Another option is to hang one continuous scarf over all the windows, rather than individual ones.

    • 5). Install decorative hooks on each side of the casings when dressing a bay window with curtains and hang a tieback for each curtain panel. Change the look easily by only tying back the two outside panels, only the inside ones or all of them if you want everything open.
