    • 1). Maintain your health with proper hygiene and a nutritious diet. Develop habits of cleanliness like regular hand washing and covering your face when you sneeze or cough. Eat vegetables and whole grains while avoiding food items with high fat, salt or sugar content.

    • 2). Store food and water in case a pandemic limits your access to fresh supplies. Choose foods that are not perishable and require limited amounts of water so that you can conserve. Also, pick foods that require limited or no cooking to prepare because gas or electricity be may be interrupted.

    • 3). Make plans to practice social distancing to protect yourself from the flu. If possible, make arrangements to telecommute to work. Encourage your supervisor and company leadership to establish a pandemic policy. If your job requires your presence, try to stagger shifts or use other means to reduce the number of people in the office at the same time. Also, make contingency plans for meetings, events and gatherings.

    • 4). Stay informed of policy updates and infection alerts from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other government websites.
