Ford Maverick Specifications
- In all, Ford produced more than 2,500,000 million Mavericks and the associated Mercury version, the Comet, during the vehicle's production run. Sales peaked in the car's first year and largely declined; sales spiked slightly in 1973 with 300,000 units sold, however.
- The first Mavericks came with 170- or 200-cubic-inch in-line six-cylinder motors. These motors produced 105 and 120 horsepower, respectively. Later model years offered the option of 200- or 250-cubic-inch six-cylinder motors or a 302-cubic-inch V-8.
- The Maverick, introduced as an economy car option for consumers, started as a two-door model that weighed just more than 2,500 lbs. and had a 103-inch wheelbase. Mavericks broke the 3,000-lb. barrier in the 1974 model year. Ford first introduced a four-door option in 1971.
