Jet Airways" Jetlite To Operate Under Jetkonnect Brand
Effective March 25, JetLite will merge into Jet Airways JetKonnect, allowing travellers to enjoy single in-flight product in the full-service segment (Jet Airways) and low-fare arena (JetKonnect).
Jet Airways Chief Commercial Officer Sudheer Raghavan explaining the logic behind the decision said the launch of brand is the result of organised attempts and the fact that JetKonnect has proved to be a successful business model since it was formed in May 2009. Mr Raghavan said it is best to consolidate products in the low-fare segment for enhanced brand recall.
Jet Airways also said it is also looking for opportunities to effectively cross-utilise common resources of Jet and JetLite wherever it is feasible. The airline also believes that the rebranding will assist synergising its joint operations.
Formed in 2007 after the acquisition of Air Sahara by Jet Airways, JetLite has earned a good reputation in the countrys domestic travel market with heaps of travellers taking international flights to India opting for Jet Lite for internal travel in the country. JetLite offered connections to more than 30 domestic destinations as well as provided international cheap flights to Indias neighbouring country, Nepal.
Jet Airways management indicated at the merger last year in July when groups Vice-President (Commercial Strategy and Investor Relations), K. G. Vishwanath said that it makes sense to operate only one brand in the low-fare arena and this is something the company might do after all.
Talking about this Mondays announcement, Jet Airways also said the low-cost carrier, JetKonnect, otherwise known for offering cheap flights to India domestic travellers, will also offer Premiere services on certain routes. These services will be same to the ones offered to the Premiere guests on Jet Airways. The airline also made it clear that this something the airline is looking to expand further.
Talking of the flight codes, the Jet Group explained that some JetKonnect flights will operate under the S2 code, whereas others will have the 9W code. The airline group also confirmed that 9W and S2 will continue with their existing code share agreement enabling customers to take advantage of seamless connectivity between India and the world.
At present, the Jet Group operates more than 600 flights a day and maintains a fleet of 120 aircraft. Jet Airways offers flights to India from 24 international travel destinations. The airline also offers 50 local connections.
On the other hand, JetKonnect currently connects Indias major domestic routes - Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Kolkata.
