Rhinoplasty is a nasal surgery that is always undertaken either as a cosmetic surgery or for the purpose of correcting structural deficiencies that may result in breathing difficulties. Most people who have sought cosmetic rhinoplasty have done it in order to improve their self esteem as well as rectify the imbalances of the facial features. The surgery could include the enlarging or decreasing size of the nose, modify the tip or the bridge of the nose, changing the nostril shape or even narrowing the same. These being a sensitive surgery, the patient should make sure by all means that the doctor who is going to carry out the procedure is qualified to avoid disappointments. They should at least have a history of having performed such operations.
There are different types of rhinoplasty which can be undertaken depending with the purpose as to why the operation is sought. First, there is what is called open Rhinoplasty that is carried out both on the exterior and the interior side of the nose. In this type of surgery, an opening is made on the bridge connecting the nostrils otherwise called columella and other parts as required. This method is preferable to those who want to make extensive changes to reshape their nose and it includes altering the tip, reducing the flared nostrils as well as to adjust the nose image. The other type is the closed one which involves only the inside of the nose and will leave the patient without obvious scars simply because there is no work done on the exterior part of the nose.
There is also another kind known as reduction rhinoplasty whose goal is to reduce the size of the nose. This process involves removing or rearranging the cartilage and the bone in the nostrils. This may involve the open Rhinoplasty but the recovery takes a short time. Just like any other kind of surgery, Rhinoplasty has its own risks as well as benefits. The patient may experience infections, bleeding, and anesthesia or even react to the prescribed medication after the surgery. The patient may also experience burst blood vessels which can cause red acne and minor scars under the nose. Some of these complications may require a second procedure in order to correct or even remove some tissue. It is also good to know that the process of recovery is very vital and the patient should take good care of this. If the recovery is handled in a wrong way, then the patient may end up back on the surgery table to have the process redone again. The patient should make sure that the nose is not infected as much as it is possible.
The nose will swell due to the surgery but this should be expected from every surgery. To help reduce the swelling, the patient should apply cold compressors around the nose but avoid doing it directly to the nose. The pain that results from rhinoplasty may not be great and the least that the patient experiences will soon subside as the healing process takes effect. If the patient experiences any complication, it is advisable to visit the same surgeon in order to arrest the situation early enough. More information can be found at http://www.usrhinoplasty.com
