    Breakfast Cereal (Nam-Tao-Hu Song-Crueng)

    • Although Thai breakfast cereal may take a little time to make, it may very well be up your alley. Soft, silky, and made from lightly sweetened soy milk, tapioca pearls soaked overnight, string tapioca, and sliced grass jelly, Thai breakfast cereal is said to be wholesome and filling while adding something inventive and new to your normal breakfast fare. Your local grocery store or Asian market generally carries all ingredients.

    Rice Soup (Khao Tom)

    • Khao tom is one of the most popular breakfast dishes in Thailand. Quick, easy, and savory, it is generally made by boiling ginger, shallots, lemon grass, and vegetable or meat stock together. Once the boiling process is complete, the lemon grass is removed and the dish is seasoned with fish sauce. This serves as a base, ultimately served as either a flavored soup accompanying a number of side dishes or as flavored soup with vegetables, meat and other ingredients added to it. A thicker variation of khao tom, called johk, is also popular and is basically made by boiling rice and water into a thick substance and then diluting it with stock.

    Donut (Pa Thong Go)

    • The Thai version of a donut is called pa thong go. These pastries are similar to American donuts in that they consist primarily of white flour and water, deep fried fried to perfection. Where the Thai donut differs, however, is that it is generally fried into an x-shape and served with soy sauce, sweet soy milk, custard cream or other dipping sauces. In the morning in Thailand you'll find pa thong go being made by street vendors at nearly every street corner. They are a popular compliment to Khao Tom.
