I have been a dieter most of my life and have never been able to find long term results.
Recently I met with a nutritionist that has not only helped me really lose weight but get healthy.
I have lost over 30 pounds and kept it off simply by eating right and exercising.
I wanted to share some common myths that we all succumb to that not only don't work but are really damaging to our bodies and long term health.
Yo-Yo dieting and fad diets don't last long and mess with our digestive system.
Below are some myths I used to believe until I met with my nutriionsit and found out the facts.
Many of them may sound familiar in that they are the key to the diet industries success.
Myth: Eating less will make you lose weight.
Fact: Many diets claim that if you eat very little you will look little but this is far from the truth.
When you are not getting enough calories your body will go into starvation mode and therefore store all the fat it has.
Your body doesn't know the next time it will be fed and therefore your metabolism slows down and you will actually gain more weight.
Myth: Cutting out carbohydrates from your diet will help you lose weight Fact: Carbs are not bad.
Cutting carbs might help you initially lose weight but can be detrimental to your health long term and our bodies need carbs to function.
Without carbs your body doesn't have fuel for energy and it's simply a quick fix rather than a lifestyle.
The key is to eating good carbs such as whole wheat and fruits rather than bad ones such as crackers and candy.
Carbs are a essential to our well being.
Myth: Eat 3 meals a day Fact:When you eat 3 meals a day you tend to consume more calories and gain weight.
The best way to stay trim is to eat 6 small meals a day.
This way you your metabolism is constantly working and you tend to eat less and feel full longer Myth: Don't eat late at night Fact: This is a common misconception that we all fall prey to.
Many of us think that if eat after 7:00 we will gain weight however this is not true.
It doesn't matter when you eat as long as you are staying within the number of calories you are supposed to consume.
As long as you burn more calories than you consume you're fine.
The best thing to do is try and not fall victim to diet myths.
We tend to believe whatever we hear but the best thing to do is listen to an educated professional.
These are tips I picked up are from a nutritionist so I know what the facts actually are.
