How to Treat Enterococcus Faecalis
- 1). Drink eight to 10 glasses of water per day. According to the Mayo Clinic, drinking plenty of water helps to cleanse your urinary tract of harmful bacteria. Although this will not cure infection caused by enterococcus faecalis, it will help reduce bacteria intrusion and enhance your healing potential.
- 2). Consult your physician for prescription linezolid. Linezolid is an antibiotic used to treat highly resistant strains of bacteria, according to Kenyon College. Other antibiotics are also available for treatment of enterococcus faecalis, such as amoxicillin and sulpha drugs; however, these are not as effective against resistant strains.
- 3). Submit to hospitalization at your doctor's suggestion. According to the Mayo Clinic, severe bacterial infection may require hospitalization and IV antibiotic administration. This course of treatment is most aggressive and allows your doctor to monitor progress while preventing complications and further infection.
