How to Decorate a Warehouse for a Reception
- 1). Create a floor plan for the warehouse. Most warehouses are a large open space; therefore you will need an area for food, cake, dancing, music and seating. Keep the food away from the dance floor and music. If the event is catered, discuss with the company what type of space they will need for setup and serving. In addition, you will need an area reserved specifically for dancing and the band. Set up tables between the dance floor and food area. This will allow you to offer seating to both younger guests who enjoy dancing and older guests who prefer not to sit next to loud music.
- 2). Drape tables in tablecloths and chairs in chair covers. This will help bring romance into the room, especially if there is exposed piping. In addition to covers, place candles in the center of the table. You can choose white or ivory candles to glisten off of the exposed steel, or you can choose your own wedding colors to use for the candles. Either way, the candles will offer soft lighting during dancing and romance to the air.
- 3). Hang lights from the ceiling. If the warehouse has lighting available then take advantage of that during the food service and early festivities of the reception. Once the music begins to play and the cake has been cut, turn the main lights off and let twinkling lights take over. Patio lights or Christmas lights are ideal for stringing along the ceiling in a "big-top" type of design. Choose white or ivory lights so they will reflect of piping and concrete flooring.
- 4). Add flowers to the room to enhance the romantic atmosphere. You can place flowers anywhere -- on the table, next to the dance floor, hanging from the ceiling or the stage. Incorporate your wedding flowers into the décor to combine the romance and modern look. If you choose real flowers then you will want to ensure the room stays a cool temperature to prevent the flowers from wilting during the reception.
- 5). Play a video montage of the bride and groom during the reception. You can use a solid wall to project the images up on the wall. Section the area off to prevent people from knocking over the projector or from walking in front of the images. You can also set up the present table next to the montage.
- 6). Cover any unwanted areas with tulle. If there are specific areas that you feel are unsightly, then drape tulle across the area to keep people away and to transform the area from ugly to beautiful. Tulle is inexpensive and easy to hang.
