If you have Type 2 diabetes, it's not too late to get on the physical activity train! Losing weight whether you have Type 2 diabetes or not, can be an uphill battle, so it's very important to add extra activity into your day.
Activity that doesn't take a lot of time and effort.
While it would be great to have two or three hours each day that you could devote to exercising, for most people this just isn't practical.
Changing your diet will also help you lose weight, but it often isn't enough by itself.
This is why it's so important to make some changes to your everyday activities to allow you to burn more calories.
Here are 7 tips to help you get started with weight loss: 1.
Take the stairs instead of riding the elevator.
Many people work in an office building where they jump onto the elevator in the lobby each morning.
Instead of doing that, take the stairs so you can burn off those extra calories throughout the day.
2.
Buy a stationary bike or treadmill.
A lot of people like to ride their stationary bike or walk on their treadmill while they're watching TV.
This allows you to get your mind off the exercise you are actually doing, but also be able to squeeze it in while enjoying other activities such as your favorite TV show.
3.
Walk your dog.
If you have a dog, or if your neighbor has one volunteer to walk it.
Dogs need the exercise, and so do we.
Even if you have a fenced in backyard, your dog would probably enjoy the extra time spent investigating the neighborhood.
4.
Skip dessert and add a little exercise.
Instead of enjoying a dessert at the end of every meal, use that time to enjoy a few more minutes of exercise.
5.
Subscribe to online movie sites.
That way, you'll be able to watch exercise videos on demand.
Having a variety of exercise routines, plus new ideas, will get you excited about your daily fitness routine.
6.
Bring your lunch.
Instead of going out for your meal at lunchtime each day, start bringing your lunch so you can cut down on calories (or kilojoules), and add healthy nutrients to your diet.
7.
Walk when you can.
If you live in an area where you can walk to the store or run errands, make sure to do so.
Even if you can go to the local shops on your bicycle, you will move some of the sugar from your bloodstream and into your muscle cells.
As well, it will help you with losing weight.
As you can see, it doesn't take a lot of extra effort or time to add these tips into your daily activities.
By doing so, you will add years to your life and feel healthier in the long run.
Physical activity along with a moderate caloric intake is considered to be the most effective way to lose weight.
And along with weight loss comes an increase in insulin sensitivity, which allows many people with Type 2 diabetes to reduce the amount of insulin or oral anti-diabetic medications needed.
Insulin is a growth hormone, so the less of it in your system means the fewer pounds (kilograms) you will gain.
Breaking this cycle of insulin chasing blood sugar chasing insulin, is the real key to the control of your Type 2 diabetes and lasting weight loss.
