People with skin infestation meet many challenges in life such as embarrassment, isolation, anxiety up to the point of self dehumanisation. There have been cases reported of suicides related to skin infections. Grown ups are no exception. Their reaction to skin conditions are more subtle, but all the same unconstructive. The cause of skin infection is same as that which occurs in teenagers, although in adults it is more severe and difficult to handle. Dead cells and oils clog the pores on the skin thus blocking these essential pathways for secretion of oils from the body. The term acne is a word derived from the Greek word aetius amidenus which means skin flare-up. Well, that basically gives you a picture of the horrible skin condition if you have not already had it. It flares up in form of itchy and unsightly spots, zits and cysts.

Here are some tips on preventing and treating the skin condition. The clogged pores are easily treated by regularly cleaning the face with clean water and antiseptic soaps. This helps to clear the harmful bacteria that can accumulate in the pores of the skin. Take note to always keep your face moisturized. A well moisturized skin functions much better and is better able to resist infection. Make a daily routine of washing your face at least two times a day, whereby the second time is right before you go to bed.

Avoid squeezing pimples on your face. This will only increase the rate of infection. Use moisturizing skin care products such as milky lotions, creams, lipsticks and glosses that generally freshen up your face.

Over the counter (OTC) medicated lotions, gels, soaps and creams are useful in clearing pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. These OTC medications contain such active agents as benzyl peroxide and salicylic acid.

Antibiotics, whether oral or topical apply when the condition is in the moderate or severe state. Other drugs including retinoids may work better than antibiotics. This is because retinoids stimulate the skin to flush out dead cells before they clog the pores.
