    • 1). Measure the area where the bar will be installed.

    • 2). Measure and cut a pressure-treated two-by-four to fit the bar's length. This piece is called the sill plate and will be used to connect the bar to the floor.

    • 3). Measure and cut a standard two-by-four to fit on top of the sill plate. This is the bottom plate.

    • 4). Nail 36-inch-long studs to each end of the bottom plate.

    • 5). Determine how many more studs will be needed for the bar's frame by measuring the distance between the two end studs and dividing this measurement by 24. You are dividing by 24 because the studs should be no more than 24 inches apart.

    • 6). Mark the locations of the studs on the bottom plate and nail them to the bottom plate.

    • 7). Nail a two-by-four across the top of the studs. This is the top plate.

    • 8). Nail the frame into place on top of the sill plate.

    • 9). Measure the distance from the floor to the top of the sill plate and cut sheets of 3/4-inch plywood to fit.

Nail the plywood to the outside of the frame.

Install the countertop. If you're using wood, measure the dimensions of the bar and cut the wood to fit. Make the countertop long enough to hang about 3 inches over the front of the bar. If you're using marble or granite for the countertop, give the dimensions to a manufacturer who can cut the countertop to size.

      Paint or stain the bar.
