How to Place Drain Tile
- 1). Connect your drain tile to the foundation drainage and pass the tile along the foundation. Your drain tile needs to clear the foundation of the house and achieve a downward slope to provide proper drainage.
- 2). Cover the drain tile with drainage gravel. Make sure the tile is completely surrounded and covered by the gravel to ensure proper drainage and protection.
- 3). Cover the first layer of drainage gravel with a thick layer of washed gravel. Keep adding gravel until the drain tile ditch only has 18 inches of empty space remaining.
- 4). Spread a layer of straw and hay over the gravel in a 4-inch-thick layer to keep any loose dirt particles from working into the gravel and drain tile. You can use a sheet of tar paper instead of hay to protect the drain tile.
- 5). Cover over the hay with dirt, leaving only the end of the pipe exposed to allow for drainage. Pack the dirt down and plant grass seeds to allow the drain ditch to disappear completely.
