Pita Bread Brings The Best Middle-Eastern Tradition To Your Home

101 16
Round shaped, flat, wheat pies are one of the oldest recipes known in the Middle East and in Maghreb (North-West Africa) countries. Pita bread probably originates from ancient Syria. It can be used for dipping or eaten with stuffing made of all kinds of meat, vegetables, spices and hot or mild sauces – there are absolutely no limits in terms of that, just your imagination. Basic ingredients for the pita dough are wheat (or other) flour, water and yeast. Thanks to its natural properties pita dough expands during the baking and the final product can be compared to a pocket, so all the additional ingredients can be easily put into the bread and stay there while you eat. No mess – no stress, isn't that great? Want to try and prepare your own pita bread at home? Here's how you can do that even if you're not a chef and don't have a traditional middle-eastern brick oven. 10 easy steps to enjoy your home-made middle-eastern speciality.

1 tablespoon of fat-free instant milk

6 tablespoons of vegetable oil

1 tablespoon of dry yeast (7 g)

8. In the meantime heat up a large frying pan

9. Roll one portion of the dough (the shape needs to be round) and fry it on the pan until you notice that air bubbles start to appear than gently turn it over using a wooden or plastic spatula and fry it on the other side.

10. Use spatula to flatten your pita bread.

Congratulations! You have just prepared pita bread of your own!

Remember: It is important to keep your ready pita bread warm while you fry the next ones so it can be a good idea to put them in a towel or in a special storage bag. If you, your family and friends can't eat 18 pitas at one time don't worry! You can freeze them and store up to a month in freezing bags. How convenient is that?

I also have one extra tip for everyone who doesn't feel like making dough or simply don't have time for that. You can try to buy pita bread and concentrate only on preparing stuffing of your choice. Or even easier – go for ready made pita bread. You can try an online  pita bakery. Some offer great low carb pita bread or high fiber pita bread which is good for diabetics. Bon appetite!
