How to Make Marizapan Flowers
- 1). Mix about ½ cup of cornstarch and ½ cup of powdered sugar in a small mixing bowl. Dust a flat surface with the powder combination. Mix ¼ teaspoon of gumpaste with ¼ teaspoon of water in a small cup. Set aside.
- 2). In a large mixing bowl, combine the almond paste, syrup, and marshmallow cream. Add the powdered sugar in small amounts at a time until it is blended. Once the mixture is too thick to stir, begin kneading it with your hands until it is completely mixed. If the mixture is too wet, add a little bit more powdered sugar.
- 3). Reserve about ¼ of the marzipan and set it aside. Add a few drops of food coloring to the larger portion of marzipan, then place it on the flat surface dusted with cornstarch and powdered sugar. Roll the marzipan until it is very thin, but not so thin that it tears.
- 4). Use the cookie cutters to cut out as many flowers as possible using all of the marzipan. You will need an even number of flowers. Run the veining tool down each petal, gently lengthening them. Work slowly so that you don't break the petals.
- 5). Place a dab of glue in the middle of one flower, then place another flower on top of it, rotating it slightly so that the petals are alternating and you can see each petal of the bottom flower between each petal of the upper flower.
- 6). Add a few drops of a different color to the remaining marzipan and knead until the color has mixed. Pinch off small chunks of the mixture and roll them into balls. Dab a small amount of glue in the center of the top flower and place the balls onto the center. Lay each flower in the flower former so that the petals dry with a slight curve.
