A holiday representative is a position that is very demanding and challenging.
It requires a lot of work with little supervision.
Many feel that they can become a rep and be able to party in other countries all hours of the day and night.
However, this is not the case at all as the rep is required to make sure the guests vacation runs smoothly and is up to par.
The holiday representative as a job can entail long hours and difficult working conditions.
This will be explained more in depth within this article.
There is a lot of work involved within this position.
Being a representative can turn into long working days.
There is really no set schedule for a rep seeing that emergencies arise, guests come and go, etc.
However, the most common times to be on duty would be from 8:00am to 1:00pm and around 5:00pm to 8:00pm at night.
However, at times, you may be working 12 straight hours depending on what is going on in the surrounding environment.
Of course, you may have a day off, but you will be required to be on call for emergencies.
Emergencies can happen at any given time and you must be available so that someone can in contact with you provided that an emergency does occur.
Normally, the work is seasonal being that you will be working the most often during the summer.
However, with countries having seasons at different times, you will still be traveling and working during other seasons than summer.
For example, there may be ski resorts in which you can obtain a holiday representative position.
Therefore, you obviously won't be working during the summer, but rather the winter.
And depending on what country or beach you obtain a holiday rep position, you may be working during the spring or fall as that may be their "summer".
Depending on what the guests need during the vacation, you could be working indoors or outdoors.
Since you must answer to the needs of the guests, if they need help with someone within their room - you will assist them.
If they need something outside of the resort, for some reason, you will assist them.
The climate will vary depending on what resort, location, and country you are in at the time.
You could be in the snow, the rain, the summer heat, etc.
You can have the option of choosing where you go with most tour companies so you can choose if you would like to work more often during the summer 'at resorts located in the sun, or if you want to work more often during the winter months - at ski resorts, perhaps.
Holiday representatives will be required be away from home for several months at a time.
You must be willing to be away from your family and friends for this long in order for you to succeed in your holiday representative position.
A rep will also be required to wear a uniform majority of the time.
Therefore, this must not be an issue with you.
