One of the key elements of a great garden is good drainage. Open up and breathe. So today we are going to talk about three ways that you can do that in your own garden. The first one good old fashioned compost that you can actually create in your own garden. You can have a compost heap, leftovers from the kitchen, the vegetable garden. Whatever it is you can make this yourself. Secondly, this is a really special mix. This is coconut coir and shredded bark. This is a marvelous way to improve the drainage in your garden. It really opens up the soil. And lastly this is compost and vermiculite. Vermiculite is something really special. Used in your garden it will actually help aerate the soil and it will help the young roots of young plants grow. So that's a key ingredient to help your soil drain. Don't skimp on the extras. When you are at the garden center buying your plants go the extra mile. Spend a few more dollars. Get some good soil additive, compost organic matter. It will break that soil up and it will really help the drainage. This is Nicholas Staddon from Monrovia Nursery on how to help your soil drain.
