How to Cut Glass Tiles to Make Outlet Holes

    • 1). Plan your job — whether it's a glass tile backsplash or another job that requires the cutting of glass tiles — appropriately by mocking up the layout. Through this process, you will get an idea of how many glass tiles you will need to cut, and how.

    • 2). Mark the tiles you will need to cut, using a marker and a ruler. For example, if you will need to cut a 2-inch by 1-inch piece off the corner of a tile, measure it with a ruler and trace the lines with a permanent marker.

    • 3). Set up a tile saw according to the manufacturer's instructions. Typically, you will need to plug in both the saw and the water pump, and fill a pail or other receptacle with clean tap water.

    • 4). Position the guides on the tile saw to help you make the cuts you'll need. Most tile saws come with a variety of different guides you can bolt on the saw table. Choose a guide that has the angle you need, and then slide it in place.

    • 5). Push the glass tile firmly against the tile saw guide, turn on the saw and slowly push the guide and the tile through the spinning blade. Don't jam the tile so hard that it cracks; push it slowly and allow the blade to do the work for you. If you're cutting a tile in two different directions, back the tile out, turn it appropriately and make the second cut.
