According to statistics from the American Optometric Association, about 30% of Americans suffer from some form of nearsightedness.
In spite of this statistic, there is still hope for your vision improvement.
We look forward to the freedom that visual independence gives us in terms of the ability to see clearly without glasses, contacts or laser surgery.
Eye exercises for better vision help us to achieve this goal.
The human eye much like any other part of the human body is resilient.
Excessive close up work without breaks exert tension and stress on the eye muscles causing them to be weakened.
This contributes to poor eyesight.
The good news is that these eye muscles can be strengthened again through a series of effective eye exercises for better vision.
Here is a sample of eye exercises for better vision.
Choose a distant object about 20 -25 feet away.
For instance, a tree, a building, a street light or an object in your house.
Get an index card.
Preferably, one that is 2x3 in size with black letters on it.
Extend the index card out to arms length.
To a point where you can still see the letters on the card clearly.
Shift your focus back and forth from a letter on the card, to a distant object you can see.
Keep repeating this technique 3 times a day.
This technique is more effective when performed one eye at a time.
Start with the left eye and then work with the right eye.
Cover one eye either with your hand or an eye patch to do this.
Then, eventually, practice shifting with both eyes.
Working with each eye individually helps you to achieve better co-ordination in both eyes.
This technique improves the flexibility of the eye muscles.
Because oxygen is essential in feeding the visual system better results are obtained by inhaling and exhaling deeply.
Here is another particularly helpful exercise to correct nearsightedness.
To perform this technique, sit in a comfortable chair.
Hold up a pencil or your right thumb, preferably about 6 inches from your nose.
Focus on the pencil or thumb, and then shift your focus to an object on the opposite side of your room.
Look at the distant object on the opposite side of the room, pausing for a few seconds before re-shifting your focus back to the thumb.
Repeat this technique about 10 times.
Pay close attention to your ability to see the distant object clearly.
As the distant object appears clearer to you, select another distant object further away and repeat the process.
You can correct nearsightedness.
You don't have to be confined to glasses or contacts for the rest of your life.

Ultimately, it gives us the ability to have greater mobility and independence so we can enjoy all of our daily activities with clearer, vision.
