    • 1). Open a paperclip all the way out. Rub it back and forth on a piece of wood or a table to get all the bends out of it.

    • 2). Sand the rough ends of the paperclip with 80-grit sandpaper.

    • 3). Curve the paperclip into a "U" Shape.

    • 4). Put the paperclip over your teeth.

    • 5). Place a dime-size amount of orthodontic wax (available at most drugstores) over the ends of the paperclips, and mold the wax around the teeth and the paperclip ends to hold the "retainer" in place.
