How to Cut Shrink Plastic
- 1). Sand one side of the shrink plastic sheet if it does not have a rough side.
- 2). Draw your design in pencil on a sheet of drawing paper.
- 3). Place the drawing paper under the shrink plastic.
- 4). Trace the design onto the rough side of the shrink plastic using a fine line permanent marker. Add details as desired using the marker. The object will shrink by about 45 percent so some of the details may be lost.
- 5). Color the design with good quality colored pencils. Use multiple layers of coloring for a richer color.
- 6). Cut out the objects using sharp craft scissors. Avoid snipping the scissors closed completely as you may cause horizontal cracks in the plastic. Be sure to cut as close as possible to your drawn lines.
- 7). Punch small holes with a hole punch in the shapes if desired for adding strings or hooks.
- 8). Place the cut out objects on a heat proof tray. Use a craft heat tool to heat the objects. Follow the manufacturer's instructions. Heat until the objects have shrunk to the desired size.
- 9). Remove any excess plastic or rough edges from your object using a rotary tool with a sanding attachment.
