Crafts for Framing Poetry

    Twig Frame

    • The Scouter Mom website shows how you can add a rustic feel to your poem by building a frame out of twigs. Gather 12 long, straight twigs ranging from 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Print or hand write your poem on heavy paper, leaving a few inches around the sides. Break or cut half of the twigs to about the length of the paper and half to the width. Glue the twigs around the paper with a hot glue gun. Add more twigs on top of the first layer to prevent the paper from showing through around the frame.

    Craft Stick Frame

    • Craft stick frames are great for children's poems. Lay two craft sticks side by side and glue two craft sticks at one end to form a right angle. Glue two more craft sticks to the other end, and two more on the other side to complete the square. Decorate the craft sticks with paint, markers, glitter or stickers. Print out the poem and cut the paper into a square. Glue the craft stick frame on top of the paper.

    Baby Foot Frame

    • Take a wide, simple store bought frame and paint it a color to match your baby's room. When your baby is relaxed and sitting in his highchair, paint the bottom of his foot with water based paint and roll it onto the side of the frame so it leaves a footprint. Further embellish the frame using painted precut wooden letters to spell out the baby's name around the edges of the frame. Place a copy of the poem written in calligraphy inside the frame.

    Poem Plate

    • Purchase a simple white plate and a paint marker. Write your poem in the center of the plate. Cut out images from magazines, such as flowers or butterflies, and use decoupage glue to adhere them around the outside of the plate. When the poem and images are dry, brush a thin layer of decoupage glue across the entire plate to seal it.

    Ribbon Wrapper Frame

    • Purchase an oval or circular wooden frame from a craft supply store. Starting at the top, glue the end of a piece of ribbon to the back and begin to wrap it around the frame. Overlap each piece so that the wood does not show through. Add a small dab of glue on the back of the frame each time you go around to prevent the ribbon from sliding. Attach your poem with glue on the back of the frame.
