Halloween Costume for Girls
What is your little girl dressing up as this year for Halloween? For once I thought I was pretty well organised.
Ellis and I had narrowed it down to five costumes (Ellis being my seven year old daughter) 1/Roman Lady 2/Hippie chick 3/Cleopatra 4/Gypsy girl 5/Dark gothic bride We had looked on all the sites that sold costumes and eventually decided on Cleopatra, great all I needed to do was send away my payment and that was that, a great stress free Halloween costume with no effort! Until it happened, a letter from her school that read...
parents and children this year for Halloween are encouraged to make their own costumes The school feels that there is to many expensive bought costumes, and feel this is unfair to parents that can not afford to but them.
Well you can imagine my reaction, I was so so annoyed, it had taken me from September 1st to get Ellis to try to decide and just when she had,this..
..
..
And then I thought about it and do you know what I decided that her school is so right.
I hold my head in shame that I too had fell right into the trap of bought costumes.
BUT did we panic? NO WAY,me and my wee trusted pal sat down and decided we could make a Cleopatra outfit and we had fun in doing it.
We looked up lots and lots of information about Egypt, what clothes they wore, footwear, colours, jewellery, hairstyles and so on.
But here's the thing it didn't stop there.
Ellis became really interested in all things Egyptian, and I now have my very own little Egyptiologist and the loveliest little Cleopatra you ever did see So it just goes to show, with a little effort and information, there is no need to buy your kids costumes Take a time and reap the benefit of making your own with your child.
I'm sure they will remember this Halloween with the fondest of memories.
I have to leave it there cause Ellis has another party and we've already started researching Rome.
HAIL!
