Joseph Matthew Blanton was born in Nashville on Dec 11, 1980 and grew up in Franklin and Brownsville Kentucky. He played high school ball at Franklin-Simpson High and college ball for the University of Kentucky.
In 2002, Joe was drafted (24th in the 1st round) into Major League Baseball and signed by the MLB Oakland Athletics. In the summer of 2008 he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies.
