Quartzite As a Countertop Material
- Quartz is an extremely abundant natural material. It ranks as a 7.0 on the Moh's Hardness Scale. The scale measures scratch-resistance from 1 to 10. Only diamonds, sapphires and topaz rank higher on the scale. Quartz countertops are nearly 100 percent quartz and therefore very dense and hard. They are also nonporous and twice as strong as granite. Cambria brand quartz countertops are certified by NSF International as safe for food preparation areas.
- Quartz countertops come in a variety of colors that vary by manufacturer.
- Installation is similar to other solid surface materials. Countertops are measured and cut to the exact requirements of each project.
- Quartz particles are mixed with resin and color pigments and poured into a mold that is compressed and cured. The slab is then cooled, cut and polished.
- Quartz does not require sealing, waxing or polishing. Water and soap is all that is required to clean countertops. It is naturally stain resistant so minimal cleaning is necessary.
