    Floaters

    • Though retinal detachment is painless, there some very obvious signs will let you know something is wrong. You will notice the appearance of floaters, like bits of debris and hair, that seem to float across your vision.

    Other Symptoms

    • You may also notice a sudden blurring in one eye, sudden flashes of light or you will notice part of your visual field has a shadow over it.

    Doctor

    • If you notice any of these symptoms, it is imperative to see a doctor immediately. Time is of the essence since you are actually losing visual acuity the longer the retina is detached.

    Waiting

    • However, most people will wait to see the physician in hope the symptoms will resolve on their own. In some cases, the symptoms will lessen, but a total loss of vision will follow in a few days.

    Advanced Retinal Detachment

    • Those that wait to see the doctor will usually suffer advanced retinal detachment. In most cases, it will be difficult for the doctor to repair your retina with surgery and your vision loss may be permanent.
