In a declining economy, funding for art programs is often a casualty. Luckily, government and foundation grants are available for non-profit art organizations, public schools and artists in the state of Alaska. Grant money can help a non-profit organization reach rural and underserved communities, or provide funding to bring an artist into school classrooms. Grants can provide practicing artists with the time and financial support they need to advance their careers, or help to preserve traditional Native Alaskan art forms. - The Alaska State Council on the Arts offers several grants to individuals, public schools and 501(c)3 organizations. Each grant has its own deadlines and guidelines, but most must be submitted online through the Alaska State Council on the Arts website. Artists in schools grants provide a maximum of $5,000 for a single school and $15,000 for a school district. Career opportunity grants provide from $300 to $1,000 for professional artists to participate in career-advancing activities, such as attending conferences or workshops. Community arts development grants range up to $5,000 and provide funding for nonprofit arts organizations to develop arts programs such as festivals, dances and exhibits.
