FAQs on a Holiday to St Lucia
Does this island offer a diverse holiday experience?
Yes, you needn't worry about this being exclusively a sand-and-sea destination.
There is plenty of history to explore, a beautiful rainforest interior, a vibrant cultural background and a host of sporting opportunities - all easily accessible from your luxury hotel. St Lucia may be small but it packs a punch!
Can we get married on the island?
Yes again. In fact, the island has traditionally specialised in offering tropical luxury weddings and honeymoons. If you're staying in a luxury hotel, St Lucia offers fantastic opportunities for an unforgettable wedding and with relatively minimal formalities. However, it would only be sensible to do your research thoroughly and make sure you have all appropriate paperwork completed. It might also be a smart move to make sure you have taken appropriate expert local advice to ensure all is in order. You won't want your wedding to start with a panic or debate!
Should I avoid the rainy season?
The €rainy season€ on the island runs through much of the summer season but to needs to be kept in perspective. This is not monsoon type weather but a general tendency for an otherwise beautiful day to throw in a few short, sharp and intensive showers. The average duration might be no more than 20-30 minutes before the sun re-appears.
You can avoid it if you wish, but many visitors to the island during these weeks in the year don't even notice that they have experienced a rainy season at all!
What exactly is the €drive through volcano€?
Near the town of Soufrire on the south-west coast you'll find a volcano that is dormant but which still gives off sulphurous gasses and hot mud. It's possible to explore the area, typically on guided tours, having driven up to it on a bus, coach or hire car. It's a great experience and one not be missed if you love nature.
How vibrant is the nightlife?
There's never any possibility you're going to be bored on this island! In rural areas, the entertainment and dining may be typically based around the resorts and hotels. In the larger towns, such as the capital Castries, there are plenty of things to do and a huge variety of restaurants and clubs to visit.
Isn't this primarily a cruise destination island?
No. Of course, cruise ships do visit Castries regularly and it is very popular, but the island has never defined itself as an exclusively cruise ship destination. Many of the island's luxury hotels cater for conventional discerning travellers.
Is the cuisine hot and spicy?
It can be, and many people assume that €jerk' spices are the beginning and end of St Lucian cuisine. That, however, is most certainly not the case. As you might expect from an island heavily influenced by French cuisine, you'll find subtle flavours here that are a delight. But they won't all be very hot. Of course, through the catering of a typical luxury hotel, St Lucia will offer you not only local delicacies but international cuisine also.
