Smokey Robinson

As someone whose lived my life on the bleachers of choir practice and in front of a mic, I have always loved Smokey Robinson.
This man is almost seventy and to date he is still oozing charisma and hasn't lost his voice one bit.
Smokey Robinson and Motown are practically synonymous in the world of music.
As the VP of Motown Records for twenty-seven years, few artists are able to sustain a successful career AND a business venture.
And who could forget Smokey Robinson and the Miracles? These guys ruled rhythm and blues in Detroit and happened to be Motown Record's first act to hit it big.
Though The Miracles lasted for twenty years or so, Smokey WAS the miracles from 1965 until 1972 and in that time the group saw eleven of their singles make Top 20 on both the US and the UK billboards, and released five albums that made Top 40.
Aside from his lucrative fame Robinson found while working with The Miracles, their songs The Track of My Tears and The Tears of a Clown were both inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame Awards in the last decade.
So while Robinson may be nearing 70, the impact he made on Motown and rhythm and blues still resonates deeply today.
Two of Smokey Robinson's songs, out of three for The Miracles, have been listed on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Songs of All Time; of which The Tracks of My Tears was listed at #50.
Smokey Robinson cumulatively has released twenty-three albums, mostly with Motown but also with Universal and other labels.
Smokey Robinson has accomplished what most musicians only dream of.
In 1987 Robinson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 1999 Robinson was awarded with a LifeTime Achievement Award for his contributions to music at the Grammy Awards.
Though his awards are too great to list, Smokey is responsible for timeless hits even your kids will know such as "My Girl".
Today, in my book, Smokey is still unbelievable.
He holds his own with the newer, younger acts such as Human Nature and Jessica Mauboy.
I mean, only Smokey can over-sell a venue; as happened recently at a Hunter Valley concert! Smokey Robinson's fan base sprawls across the decades, as is the case with me! Because of this Smokey Robinson tickets are consistently sold out.
