How to Get Rid of Green Field Onions
- 1). Wait until October or November to begin removal of the green field onions since this is when they are weak.
- 2). Tie a 10-foot long piece of rope tightly around one end of a 2-by-4 board. Tie the other end of the rope around the other end of the board to create a loop. Drag the board across the areas of green field onion infestation to roughen the stalks.
- 3). Open a garden sprayer and fill it with a herbicide that contains a combination of the ingredients 2,4-D and dicamba. Use the amounts specified on the container for your size lawn and dilute it with water if instructed to do so.
- 4). Spray the herbicide mixture directly onto the clumps of green field onions until the thin blades are saturated.
- 5). Wait until the following February or March when the green field onions just start to regrow. Apply a second dose of the herbicide using the same amount and technique used for the first application.
