Chlorogenic acid is a biochemical compound found inside the green coffee bean and has been touted as one of the latest weight loss miracle pills. Researchers were originally intrigued by Chlorogenic's strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Praise for the natural weight loss potential of green coffee beans and their chlorogenic acid content on the popular Dr. Oz program has caused a marketing frenzy both off and on-line.

The acid of chlorogenic seems to modulate the way glucose enters the bloodstream after a meal, which is why supplements are turning up where ever supplements are sold.

The gastrointestinal tract breaks down almost all foods, especially carbohydrates, into the most simple of sugars, glucose. The hormone tells the glucose where and how it is needed, in the cells where it is either converted into energy or stored as fat.

When we eat meals that are really high in sugar or carbohydrates, such as breads, cakes, dairy, pastas, even alcohol and fruit juices, glucose is released into the bloodstream much faster than it would be after a more plant-based meal of vegetables and healthy proteins such as fish or nuts and seeds. This is what is known as the food's glycemic index.

When we consume food that have a high glycemic index, sugary or starchy foods, the body has to respond by releasing a lot of insulin quickly. If we constantly consume high glycemic foods, the body will be constantly releasing insulin at a furious rate. Eventually, the body becomes insensitive to insulin, thereby creating an imbalance in the amount of free glucose floating around in the bloodstream. Excess glucose in the blood stream could be stored as fat, but long term it will wind up causing damage to cells and organs. Type 2 diabetes may result if not held in control with healthy diet and exercise.

Supplements containing Chlorogenic Acid have been shown to affect the way the body metabolizes glucose safely and effectively. By regulating the rate at which glucose is released, insulin response is regulated. Green coffee bean extract supplements which contain Chlorogenic Acid help to prevent excess glucose which could be stored as fat, so the body becomes more efficient at losing weight rather than gaining it.

Ensure best results by looking for a supplement whose capsules contain a Chlorogenic Acid concentration of at least 45%. There is no hard evidence that lower concentrations of Chlorogenic Acid will be effective, this was the level used in all of the clinical trials and laboratory studies.

Clinical trials have shown that Chlorogenic acid supplements have no toxicity and are extremely safe. There are several studies out there outlining the efficacy and safety of the Chlorogenic acid supplementation.

A program of healthy diet and exercise will be enhanced by the use of chlorogenic acid supplements. To avoid a pharmaceutical conflict, check with your doctor before beginning a supplement program if you are taking prescription medications.
