How to Notch Straw Bales Around Braces
- 1). Determine how far from the edge of the bale the cuts will need to be made as well as how deep the cuts should be to accommodate the brace with a measuring tape.
- 2). Mark the measurements on the bale using the spray paint.
- 3). Re-tie the bale if the marked measurements intersect with the twine tying the bale together. To do this, slip a fold of twine onto the baling needle, punch the needle through the bale in a location that will not be cut, remove the needle and tie off the twine using a Miller's knot.
- 4). Cut the bale on the lines you painted to the marked depth using the chain saw.
- 5). Brush the cut straw out of the notch and fit the bale around the brace.
