Visualizing Meditation - See Your Head in Space!
The power of visualization seems to always be touted as the end-all to our problems.
There is a reason people believe in it.
If nothing else, we can learn from athletes who use it to improve their race times, or public speakers who use it to fight anxiety on the stage.
Visualization in meditation We will be using visualization in our meditation.
First, close your eyes.
Then, start breathing deeply in, holding the breath, and slowly breathing back out.
At first when you meditate, lots of thoughts and images will be floating through your mind.
Begin to let those go as you keep breathing and meditation.
The floating head! At some point in your meditation, the images and words will begin to come less and less.
I seem to have brief 5 or 10 second moments in my meditation where there are only the sounds around me, and behind my eyes is a blank black slate with no thoughts.
Take advantage of those moments to use your visualization.
The purpose of this visualization is bring you into a state of calm that was lacking before.
What you do is picture a vivid image in your mind of your head.
What you want is an image of your head right now! Your eyes are closed, nostrils are flaring, and your breath is coming deeply in through the nose.
Seeing that picture in your mind will bring you to a state of calm.
Essentially, it is an out of body experience.
You see your head as it is right now, and by seeing yourself so calm and relaxed, you become even more calm and relaxed!
