What Type of Caravan Insurance Do You Need?

This is one of the first decisions you have to make when looking into taking out caravan insurance.
If you have a static caravan then you would have to take out insurance tailored to the static caravan.
The same would apply if you have a touring caravan, then you would need tourer insurance which would provide you with different benefits tailored to the touring caravan.
There are some features and benefits that you would find in both touring and static insurance and one of these would be protection for your personal belongings and the items in your caravan.
You will be taking a great deal of belongings with you whether you are holidaying in your static caravan or touring around.
The first thing you would have to do is work out how much the contents of your caravan are worth.
So go around and take an inventory of every single item in your caravan and don't forget items in wardrobes and cupboards as they can all add up.
This amount would be the sum of money that you would get back to replace your items in the event that they were stolen, damaged or totally destroyed.
You would have to find out whether you would get brand new replacements from your claim or whether the provider would take wear and tear into account.
If you got brand new replacements then you would have to pay out more for your premiums than if the policy took wear and tear into account.
If looking to take out caravan insurance for your static caravan then check the details of the policy to find out if the policy would pay out for such as awnings, steps, fencing and patio around your caravan.
The majority of policies would include awnings and steps but there is generally a limit to what they would pay out for these so checking with the particular provider is essential.
When looking for touring insurance for your caravan and you plan on travelling around Europe then you would have to ensure that you added European cover into your policy.
Providers will base this on so many days so again checking is essential.
The policy would pay out in the event you were to have an accident and your caravan had to be towed and repaired, it would also pay out for you to stay in alternative accommodation if you could not stay in your caravan.
The policy would pay for so many days and up to so much per day.
If you want to save on your caravan insurance then you could consider paying out more in excess than what the insurance company asks for.
Excess is what all providers will ask for before they will take over the rest of the claim.
While they will set a minimum amount that you could pay out you could offer to pay more and this would keep down the cost of the premiums.
You would however have to take into account that you chosen amount would need to come out of your own pocket in a lump sum payment should you need to claim on your policy.
