It was the worst imaginable circumstance that you could ever think of. Here I was in the locker room of our local gym, in the shower, and some guy says, "Dude, you got some nasty bumps, you might want to get checked out."  And that's how my horror story began. Those bumps he mentioned, in fact turned out to be Genital Warts.  And they are an incurable sexually transmitted disease.

I knew that there was a problem, but I never thought that it could be an STD!  However, hearing those comments from a complete stranger was more than embarrassing, and also gave me the kick in the butt to get checked out.  Of course, I went and got tested and the results came back that I had the STD. I was counseled a bit, and give a lot of information on the topic.

So, you're probably wondering what is a Genital Wart?  Well, as it was just mentioned, they are a type of sexually transmitted disease (STD). They are caused by human papillomavirus, or HPV. While there are over 100 different types of HPV, there are only a couple that cause genital warts.

Unfortunately, genital warts are extremely common within the confirmed cases of sexually transmitted diseases, and the number of confirmed cases of genital warts is increasing rapidly. They are now even more common than genital herpes, another highly contagious sexually transmitted disease.

So, now you're probably wondering what do they look like?  They are usually soft, moist, and flesh-colored.  They typically they appear in the genital area within weeks or months after infection.  You will mostly likely not even realize that you are infected before the first outbreak occurs. They spread rapidly over moist areas, and they sometimes appear in clusters that resemble cauliflower-like bumps, and can be raised or flat, small or large.

In women, they can also show up on the vulva and cervix, and inside and surrounding the vagina and anus. In men, they can appear on the scrotum or penis. And they are simply spread to another person by mere skin contact.  That is how they are mainly transmitted to another person, and this transmission most commonly occurs when people are engaging in sexual intercourse.

If you think that you might have been exposed to Venereal Warts, or you have an outbreak of similar bumps in your genital region, go get tested today. Find out immediately how you can deal with this matter in the best possible way.
