From the Artist: I have long been a fan of the post-impressionists, particularly Van Gogh and Cezanne. While I admire those who can create a smooth photo-realist picture, I prefer not to fuss too much over the details. Van Gogh preferred to paint a complete picture at one sitting. I drew this picture in one afternoon and am satisfied with it.

From the Painting Guide: I think you should indeed be satisfied with it.

There's a vitality and energy to it, the skintones glow against the dark paper. The mark-making is vigorous, contributing to the sense of the body, but also pulling the viewer's eye around to look at this bit and that.
