How to Freeze-Dry Green Onions
- 1). Rinse the green onions and pat them dry thoroughly. Getting rid of excess moisture will help prevent freezer burn. You can freeze-dry as many green onions as you think you will need over a six month period of time.
- 2). Thinly slice the green onion; you can freeze dry both the white and green parts of the green onion.
- 3). Place the sliced green onions on a sheet of wax or parchment paper and place a sheet of plastic wrap over them. Place the wax paper with the green onions on a cookie sheet.
- 4). Put the cookie sheet in your freezer for three to four hours; this will draw out the remaining moisture in the green onions.
- 5). Remove the green onions from the freezer and transfer them to a freezer bag when the green portions of the onions are a dark green color and the slices appear to be shrunken. Ensure that the freezer bag is tightly sealed. Store the freeze-dried green onions in the freezer and use them within six months.
