A program manager earns $41,064, while the director of development has an average salary of $51,812. Administrative assistants, office managers and executive assistants can expect between $30,796 and $39,274.

    Salaries by Experience

    • The number of years experience an individual has in the non-profit sector has an effect on his salary. A new worker to a non-profit organization earns an average salary of $34,516, while one with between five and nine years of experience earns $46,740. With over twenty years in the non-profit sector, an employee earns an average of $59,846 a year.

    Salaries by Employer Type

    • Workers employed by a non-profit organization earn an average salary of $43,308. However, other types of employers also employ workers for non-profit causes. A non-profit worker for a company earns an average salary of $47,618, while one working for the state or local government earns $41,804. The federal government offers workers an average of $54,480 for non-profit work, but the highest paying employer for non-profit workers is hospitals, with an average salary of $57,672.

    Salaries by City

    • Location has a bearing on the salary of nearly any job, as cost of living is a factor that must be considered. San Francisco and Los Angeles are the two highest-paying cities for non-profits at $54,437 and $52,022 respectively, according to PayScale. Washington D.C., New York City, and Seattle follow at just above $50,000 each, and Chicago and Atlanta are third at $44,183 and $45,967 respectively.
