Kids love to play dress up and pretend they are someone else. The best way to do that is by creating masks to wear. Act like a clone of aliens out to meet Earthling friends, or get ready for a Mardi Gras party, New Orleans style. Engage kids in the art of pretend with mask crafts and get ready to have a blast with some new identities. - Green aliens will take over your house with this extraterrestrial craft. Purchase green craft foam; (regular or glow in the dark) each mask will use one sheet of foam. Print out the mask template and trace it on the foam. Cut it out. Adhere it to a plain black, plastic party mask with double sided foam tape. Print out the ears template and trace it on to the foam, cutting out the ears and using the foam tape to attach them to the back of the mask. Poke a hole in pingpong balls with a craft knife or push pin; insert pipe cleaners into the hole. Attach two of these on top of the mask for antenna eyes; glue a google eye on each one. Let kids decorate their masks as they desire with stickers.
- Create a feathery Mardi Gras mask by downloading and printing out the template and stapling it on to a sheet of purple craft foam. Cut around the template to make your mask and discard the template. Decorate the mask with glitter paint, feathers, curled up pipe cleaners and rhinestones. Attach them using a hot glue gun. Paint a small wooden dowel with gold craft paint and allow it to dry. Hot glue the mask to the dowel on one end of the mask.
- Girls need their beauty sleep, so help them make girly sleep masks. These materials will make three sleep masks. Download and print the template and trace it on to 1/4 yard of satin. Cut the satin masks out and lay them on black self adhesive felt for a template; cut those out as well. You should have three black felt masks and three satin masks. Adhere the felt to the satin. Now glue an elastic (10" long pieces for each mask) strap to each side of the mask on to the felt part. Decorate the front of the mask (the satin) with rhinestones, glitter, puff paint and craft foam.
- The bottom of a paper plate will make a great fall pumpkin mask. Draw two triangles or large circles for eyes, a triangle nose, and a big toothy jack-o'-lantern mouth. Cut the facial features out carefully. Staple an elastic cord to the back of the mask so it will stay on your head. Color or paint your pumpkin orange, and cut a piece of green construction paper into the shape of leaves and a stem. Cut these out and staple or tape them to the top of your mask.
