By water, I mean the plain stuff, or H2O flavoured with a slice of lemon.

Switch from sweetened drinks, cola, sodas, beers and fruit juices to plain water.
Do you know how many calories are hidden in sweetened drinks, sodas and even fruit juices? Even beer and alcoholic drinks contain calories.
Water on the other hand, is calorie free.
By switching from calorie laden drinks to this, you can very well lose several pounds in weeks.
All from the elimination of these hidden calories.

Drinking more water helps your liver metabolize more fat.
Your liver's job is to metabolize fat and detoxify the body.
The kidneys too work at eliminating waste matter, but if you don't drink enough water, the kidneys can't function as well as they should and the liver has to take over.
The overworked liver cannot get rid of the fat as easily as a result of having to do so much extra work.
So hydrate yourself and let the kidneys do their designated work, so your liver can help you get rid of the fat.

On top of that, your body has to keep the salt in your body balanced.
If you have to much salt, your body retains even more water to dilute it.
By drinking more water, the extra H2O will dilute the salt and as that water passes out of your body, it takes the excess salt with it.
Less salt, leads to less water retention.
So if you want to lose weight, up your water intake.
